Cedarville's University's distinctly Christian Bachelor of Music in Keyboard Pedagogy degree will prepare you to effectively teach the art of piano playing in a private studio. Piano skills are just a fraction of what you'll pass on to your students. You'll also instill in them a love for God's gift of music, confidence in their skills, and discipline that will serve them well beyond their days of piano lessons.

At Cedarville, you'll study piano pedagogy from the perspective of Bach's famous phrase "Soli Deo Gloria," or "for the glory of God alone." Varied Learning Styles — Introduces you to many different piano teaching method series to equip you to teach to your students’ individual learning style.

Effective Teaching Methods — Prepares you to teach children, university students, and adults the most effective techniques, methods, and current computer and keyboard technology.

Apprenticeship Approach — Provides you guidance from a master teacher; apprenticeship is the key to our approach and to the pedagogy major’s success.

Well-Rounded — Instructs you in marketing, professional networking, maintaining a private studio, and completing the National Certification process, preparing you to begin a financially secure teaching career immediately following graduation.

Selective (audition required) — You will be accepted into the music program — and be eligible for a department scholarship — based on a successful audition with music faculty.

As a graduate of this program you will be able to:

  • Adjudicate local, state, and national piano events
  • Become a professional, nationally certified, independent piano teacher
  • Excel in advanced study at prestigious graduate schools

  • Own and operate a music school offering various classes and with teachers serving under your leadership
  • Teach college-level piano classes
  • Teach in music stores

Graduate and professional programs and employers welcome Cedarville University graduates each year. It is important to note that some professional career fields you may pursue require additional education, experience, and/or licensure beyond the completion of your Cedarville University undergraduate degree.

Opportunities to Learn Outside the Classroom

While a student, you will be able to:

  • Adjudicate National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals and other competitions
  • Participate in our annual piano pedagogy seminar
  • Serve as paid accompanist for local churches
  • Serve as paid accompanist for school musicals and competitions
  • Serve as paid accompanist for vocalists and instrumentalists
  • Teach and work in area music stores

Soli Deo Gloria Music Scholarships

Cedarville University offers music scholarships of up to $6,000 per year for students majoring in music. You can combine your music scholarship with Cedarville’s other generous academic and need-based scholarships.
